Fimbul Records announces Jonathan Barendsma’s upcoming self- titled debut album “Sól”. Which will be the first full album release entirely composed under the hood of Fimbul Records.

Mike Olsen, solo-artist behind Danheim and co-owner of Fimbul Records mentions that his label is looking forward to releasing the new Gealdýr album, and continues:

“This album is something I have been following very closely. I am absolutely thrilled with his talent and the progress of the songs for the album. This will be one of my favorite albums to date in the Nordic Folk category. The work-in-progress songs have been on repeat for a long time, and I can’t wait for more people to discover this amazing artist and music”

We asked Gealdýr a few questions about his upcoming album, which you can read below.

What can current fans and new listeners expect from your new album?

For my new album, I researched really deep into the Old Norse sagas and stories told in the Eddas. Every song on its own has a very interesting story to tell. Instrumental and vocal wise I think I improved a lot as an artist and I can’t wait for my fans and listeners to hear what I created for them.

What inspired you during the writing/composing process?

What I wanted to create with this album was to bring over a spiritual awareness that the Northern European people once had about life. Nowadays most people think that life is very linear, but when we look into Norse mythology we can find that even after Ragnarök (The fate of the Gods) life will continue. The old sun will die and a new one will be reborn. The old Gods die and even then life will continue.

Do you have a favorite composition on the upcoming album so far?

All songs on its own are very beautiful to me because they all tell their own story and have their own emotion in it. But the first and last song of the album is very special to me. Because they tell both about the creation of this world, the end of it and the rebirth. The ongoing cycle of life that I tried to bring to life through creating these stories into songs.

Anything else you would like to add?

I just want to thank all my fans and listeners for supporting me so much. It’s just amazing to see how many people are looking forward to hearing my new album and I really can’t wait to share it with you all.

“Sól” is expected to be released later this year.
